Frequently Asked Questions

General & Scope

UK-registered legal consultancy. We advise on Egyptian law only. We cooperate with licensed lawyers in Egypt for court representation and implementation for clients worldwide.

What areas of law do you cover? Scope
We advise on Egyptian law for foreign clients across family, property, inheritance and company/commercial matters. Court pleadings and hearings are carried out by licensed lawyers in Egypt; we lead strategy, drafting and client communication.
Are you a UK law firm? Compliance
We are a UK-registered legal consultancy. We do not advise on UK law or perform reserved activities in England & Wales. Our advisory work concerns Egyptian law, delivered in coordination with licensed lawyers in Egypt.
Do I need to travel to Egypt? Process
Often not. Many procedures can be completed via a notarised and consular-legalised Power of Attorney with certified Arabic translations.

Family Law

Cross-border marriage, divorce, custody and mobility.

Can foreign spouses divorce in Egypt? Jurisdiction
Yes—subject to domicile/residence and registration of marriage. Evidence, notices and translations are key. We assess forum, timeline and recognition steps abroad.
Will a UK divorce be recognised in Egypt? Recognition
Usually via a recognition process if compatible with Egyptian public policy. A legalised judgment and Arabic translation are required.

Property & Real Estate

Can foreigners own property in Egypt? Ownership
Yes, subject to limits and zone-specific rules. We run title checks, clearances and advise on taxes and registration.
What is “usufruct” vs. freehold? Tenure
Usufruct grants long-term use/benefit while ownership remains with another party; freehold conveys ownership. Proper drafting and registration are essential.

Company & Business

What structures are typical for foreign investors? Setup
Commonly LLCs and JSCs. We handle bilingual constitutions, licensing, tax/VAT registration, bank KYC and authorised signatories.
Do you draft bilingual commercial contracts? Contracts
Yes—Arabic/English with clause-by-clause equivalence, governing law/seat planning, and certification/legalisation where needed.

Inheritance

How do I obtain an Inheritance Declaration? Procedure
Filed before the Family Court with the death certificate, heirs’ IDs, proof of relationship and any foreign probate documents (legalised and translated).

Documents & Legalisation

Does Egypt accept apostilles? Legalisation
No. Full consular legalisation is required, followed by Arabic translation and local stamping.

Fees & Engagement

How do you price your services? Fees
Fixed-fee phases where possible, plus disbursements (court, notary, translations, government fees).

How to Start

What are the first steps? Onboarding
(1) Send a brief and documents → (2) conflicts & fee scope → (3) onboarding & KYC → (4) plan & evidence checklist → (5) filings and implementation with licensed counsel in Egypt where required.
